Five Hamilton juniors have been awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships for study abroad in the spring 2017 semester. Recipients are Natasha Espinosa, Daiyan Hossain, Kalvin Nash, Kureem Nugent and Chidera Onyeoziri.

Four students have been awarded Class of 1979 Travel grants. Anna Arnn ’17, Lindsay Buff ’17, Emily Hull ’18 and Mariah Walzer ’17 were each awarded funds to attend the Society for American Archaeology meeting in Vancouver, Canada, in 2017. They will present posters about research conducted at Slocan Narrows Pithouse Village in British Columbia, Canada, during past summers.

Hamilton’s Curling Team competed in a bonspiel (tournament) hosted by RPI on Dec. 2-4 at the Schenectady, (N.Y.) Curling Club. Twenty teams from 10 different schools, divided into five groups of four teams, took part in the bonspiel.

The Hamilton College Choir, directed by Professor G. Roberts Kolb, will lead a Candlelight Christmas Vesper Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m., in the College Chapel. The service is free and open to the public.

Some 250 students and faculty/staff members celebrated Diwali on Oct. 30 at the Tolles Pavilion. Diwali is a festival of light celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs in late October and early November.

Hamilton Association for Volunteering Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) sponsored its 15th annual Dodgeball tournament on Oct. 22. Fourteen teams of 90 students participated and raised over $500 for Team Impact.

Italian filmmaker and producer Fred Kuwornu, who’s on campus this week to present three of his documentary films, is also spending time lecturing in some classes. He visited Mary Sisler’s Italian 130 class on Oct. 17.
