  • Eighteen Hamilton College seniors were elected to the Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest honor society, at the February meeting.  The inductees are: Nejla Asimovic, Joelle Baer, Rachel Beamish, Laura Becker, Christopher Bousquet, Kathleen Buckley, Gaela Sarah Dennison-Leonard, Caitlin Kennedy, Alex Mitko, Michael Nelson, Lillie Ogden, Matthew Palmer, Ianna Recco, Rebecca Rees, Nicole Saitta, Nathaniel Somes, Ryan Sutyla and Michael Verostek.

  • Hamilton’s curling team is co-hosting the annual Utica Curling Club (UCC) College Bonspiel this weekend with SUNY Poly and Colgate at UCC, 8300 Clark Mills Rd., Whitesboro. The schools will welcome 16 teams from 12 different colleges and universities. Hamilton will field two teams. The games begin on Friday, Feb. 12, ;at 9:30 p.m., and continue throughout the day on Saturday. Members of the Hamilton community are welcome and encouraged to go watch and support our teams.

  • More than 100 first-year students participated in “Know Thyself,” a new Career and Life Outcomes Center (CLOC) –sponsored event on Feb. 3. Know Thyself was the inaugural event of the Find Your Future Series for First-Years, developed specifically for first-year students to engage in conversations and activities about themselves — what makes them happy, what they're good at and what matters to them.

  • Seven Hamilton students have been selected to attend the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) that will take place in April 1-3 at the University of California, Berkeley. Aleksandra Bogoevska ’17, Andy Chen ’16, Leonard Kilekwang ’16, Alexandru Hirsu ’17, Emily Moschowits ’16, Sharif Shrestha ’17 and Tsion Tesfaye ’16 will attend. Shrestha and Tesfaye were among four Hamilton students who participated in last year’s CGI U in Miami.

  • Ana Castro Reynoso ’17 plans to study in Morocco, Bolivia and Viet Nam in the SIT International Honors Program/Comparative: Climate Change: The Politics of Food, Water, and Energy.

  • Thirty-two members of the class of ’19 as well as nine transfer students arrived on the Hill on Jan. 15 to register, move in and take part in Hamilton orientation.  The College offers January admission to about 35-45 students per year to fill vacancies created by students on leave and studying abroad.

  • Hamilton College will commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a lecture and dinner on Monday, Jan. 18, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Tolles Pavilion.  Jennicet Gutiérrez, trans Latina leader with FAMILIA TQLM, will discuss how her activism concerning trans liberation is inspired by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event is free for Hamilton students, faculty and staff but registration is required.

  • The Hamilton Model EU team brought 10 students to the 29th annual Euro-Sim event, held at Antwerp University in Belgium  from Jan. 3-7. Hamilton student participants were Dumitru (Dima) Kaigorodov ’16,  Annie Berman ’18, Daniel Berrick ’18,  Victoria Bulivant ’18, Kevin Roback ’17, Hallie Skripak Gordon ’16, Charlotte Carstens ’16, Nicolas Yardas ’18, Hristina (Tina) Mangelova ’16 and Alex Hollister ’17.  The students were accompanied by their advisor Visiting Assistant Professor of Government Ivan Rasmussen.

  • The naming of David Wippman as Hamilton’s 20th president drew a great deal of interest from local media during 2015. Student volunteering efforts as well as the College’s interest in keeping Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill garnered significant local attention, and faculty members offered expertise on timely news topics throughout the year.
