  • Thirty-two members of the class of ’19 as well as nine transfer students arrived on the Hill on Jan. 15 to register, move in and take part in Hamilton orientation.  The College offers January admission to about 35-45 students per year to fill vacancies created by students on leave and studying abroad.

  • Hamilton College will commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a lecture and dinner on Monday, Jan. 18, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Tolles Pavilion.  Jennicet Gutiérrez, trans Latina leader with FAMILIA TQLM, will discuss how her activism concerning trans liberation is inspired by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event is free for Hamilton students, faculty and staff but registration is required.

  • The Hamilton Model EU team brought 10 students to the 29th annual Euro-Sim event, held at Antwerp University in Belgium  from Jan. 3-7. Hamilton student participants were Dumitru (Dima) Kaigorodov ’16,  Annie Berman ’18, Daniel Berrick ’18,  Victoria Bulivant ’18, Kevin Roback ’17, Hallie Skripak Gordon ’16, Charlotte Carstens ’16, Nicolas Yardas ’18, Hristina (Tina) Mangelova ’16 and Alex Hollister ’17.  The students were accompanied by their advisor Visiting Assistant Professor of Government Ivan Rasmussen.

  • The naming of David Wippman as Hamilton’s 20th president drew a great deal of interest from local media during 2015. Student volunteering efforts as well as the College’s interest in keeping Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill garnered significant local attention, and faculty members offered expertise on timely news topics throughout the year.

  • Co-ed a cappella group Duelly Noted is preparing for its sixth annual concert tour during Hamilton’s winter break. The four-day tour will include performances in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist and director of the Hayden Planetarium, will appear as the next guest and the first scientist in the Hamilton College Sacerdote Great Names Series on Tuesday, April 12, at 7 p.m., in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.  He will give an interactive presentation which will followed by a question and answer period. The event will be free and open to the public.

  • Hamilton juniors Angel Pichardo and Hannah Strong have been awarded Gilman International Scholarship Program awards for undergraduate study abroad in the spring 2016 semester. Pichardo plans to study in the biomedicine program at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Strong will enroll at the University of Capetown, South Africa, in the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) arts and sciences program.

  • Eleven Hamilton students have received creativity grants from the Steven Daniel Smallen Memorial Fund. The 2015 recipients are Saige Devlin ’18, Max Freedman ’17, Corinne Hom ’16, Chris Labora ’16, Asad Javed ’16, Lily Johnston ’16, Hristina Mangelova ’16, Laura Rivera ’16, John Rufo ’16, Charlotte Simons ’16 and Zoe Tessler ’16.

  • Eight Hamilton students have been selected to receive the Class of 1979 Student Travel Award. The award, established by the alumni of Hamilton’s Class of 1979, offers financial assistance to Hamilton students who wish to pursue extensive research projects in different parts of the world.
