With a passion for thinking creatively and a desire to incite change, 16 students attended the Social Innovations Fellows program hosted by the Levitt Center from Jan. 8 - 12, gaining guidance on their own social innovation projects.

Lizzi Tran ’18 was selected to participate in the first Obama Foundation Training Day in Boston on Nov. 18. Tran, a Posse scholar from Boston, served as Hamilton Student Assembly vice president in 2016.

They are partners in poetry: Marty Cain '13 majored in interdisciplinary poetics at Hamilton, received a M.F.A. in poetics , and published Kids of the Black Hole. Kina Viola '13 majored in creative writing and edits and designs chapbooks. Together, they run Garden-Door Press.

In a spirited and giving mood fitting for the holidays, students recently gathered to participate in the ongoing “Food Harvest,” where volunteers collect and package excess food from the college’s dining halls.

More than 65 years after the passing of Henrietta Lacks, members of her family Victoria Baptiste and Alfred Carter, Jr. spoke on the dark reality behind the usage of Henrietta’s cells in medical research. The two presented a lecture and discussion in the Chapel on Sept. 21.

Citizen artist and performer Vanessa German brought her works from the streets of Pittsburgh to the Wellin Museum’s Innovative Approaches, Honored Traditions exhibit on Sept. 9, celebrating the museum’s 5th anniversary. She performed spoken word poetry and presented the story behind her sculptures, which will be part of the museum’s permanent collection.

Four young Hamilton alumnae revealed the ins and outs of the publishing industry and shared their personal experiences on working in various publishing roles at the Explorations in Publishing: How to Publish a Novel panel on April 22. The event was organized by the Career Center and the Novelists’ Support Group.
