Tyler Lovejoy ’16 is interning this summer at a small startup restaurant in Pittsburgh with a unique approach to workforce hiring: a completely free job training program that “will introduce participants to the urban agriculture, world class culinary/restaurant experience and skills necessary to excel in these fields.” He is  a workforce development advisor to Kevin Sousa, the owner and operator of the Superior Motors restaurant.

Max Flath ’16 is getting an inside look into the workings of our political system this summer as an intern in the office of Congressman Matt Cartwright ’83 (D-PA-17). Though internships on Capitol Hill are not uncommon, the manner by which Flath acquired his internship stands out as unique and reinforces the power of  Hamilton connections.

Elza Harb ’18 hasn’t yet declared her prospective major in government, but she’s getting a strong start along that path with an internship this summer in the district office of Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05) in Chicago. Harb’s internship with Quigley’s office is funded through Hamilton’s First Year Forward program. 

John Rufo ’16 is taking poetry beyond the personal and into the political this summer with an Emerson project titled “Hybrid Forms, Hybrid Voices: A Creative Study of Contemporary Political Poetics.”

This summer, Marquis Palmer ’18 is exploring conceptual frameworks with the potential to contribute to the recent #BlackLivesMatter movement, focusing primarily on an unexpected and popularly misunderstood school of thought — anarchism. His research is an Emerson project under the direction of John Stewart Kennedy Professor of Philosophy Richard Werner.

Daphne Assimakopoulos ’17 is experiencing firsthand the multifaceted world of political advocacy this summer as an online outreach intern for the National Women’s Law Center in Washington, D.C. Her internship is supported through the Diversity and Social Justice Fund, managed through Hamilton’s Career and Life Outcomes Center.

Mykhailo Antoniv ’17 is making the most of his computer science major this summer in an internship with Grand Central Tech, a startup accelerator headquartered in New York City. Through his work with GCT, Antoniv is also acting as an intern at Backtrace, an error debugging platform for native applications. His endeavors this summer are supported by the Class of 2006 Fund, managed through Hamilton’s Career and Life Outcomes Center.

Emma Reynolds ’17 is taking a deeply personal approach to research this summer, exploring the role of geography in the practice of meditation and studying the effects of different landscapes on the female consciousness through a project titled “Rooted in the Ground: A Geographical and Historical Study of the Female Consciousness in Meditation.

Elizabeth Barry ’17 is learning creative approaches to marketing and public relations work this summer in an internship with Two Sheps That Pass, a boutique niche marketing and consulting firm headquartered in New York City. THTP was founded in 1999 with the original goal of promoting artists through unorthodox marketing strategies, and that now services clients that include both Grammy award-winning and indie musicians, photographers, restaurants, best-selling authors, human rights organizations, Off-Broadway productions and more.

Chris Bousquet ’16 is entering the world of journalism this summer as an editorial intern for DC Inno, the Washington, D.C. branch of Streetwise Media. Streetwise Media was co-founded by Hamilton alumni Chase Garbarino ’07 and Kevin McCarthy ’07, and since its inception has expanded to own and operate digital news branches in Boston, D.C., Chicago and Austin. Bousquet’s internship at DC Inno is funded through Hamilton’s Joseph F. Anderson ’44 Internship Fund.
