An InsideHigherEd article titled “Majoring in a Professor,” focused on a paper, “Faculty Gatekeepers and Academic Taste in Undergraduate Students’ Choice of Major,”  co-authored by Dan Chambliss, the Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Sociology,  and his former student Christopher G. Takacs, a Ph.D. student at the University of Chicago.  Takacs presented the paper on Aug. 10 at the American Sociology Association meeting in New York City.

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Affairs, was interviewed for an article titled “Student Debt: Crippling for All Ages and Not Going Away Soon” on the FOX Business site on July 29. “The problem of student debt is not just ‘economic’ in the narrow sense,” said Cafruny. “Debt has all kinds of consequences for society: it imposes social discipline, circumscribing young people’s options, making them more acquiescent and conformist in all sorts of subtle and not so subtle ways.”

Elisabeth MacColl ’16 and Tshering Sherpa ’16, along with Associate Professor of Biology Wei-Jen Chang, presented a talk and poster at the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Ciliate Molecular Biology Conference held July 7-13 in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Peter J. Rabinowitz, the Sidney Wertimer Professor of Comparative Literature, presented a paper on June 27 at the International Conference on Narrative in Manchester, England. His presentation, partly co-authored with James Phelan, was included in “Three Approaches to Narrative Theory: A Dialogue in Two Rounds, ” a session that focused on differing views of plot and progression.

Alumnus Walter Cronkite IV will appear on MSNBC’s Morning Joe program, also on Thursday, July 11, to discuss Cronkite's War: His World War II Letters Home which he co-authored with Professor of History Maurice Isserman. The segment is scheduled to air at 7:40 a.m. Tracy Adler, Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art director, will talk with WAMC's The Roundtable host Joe Donahue about the museum and its current and future exhibitions. on Thursday, July 11, at 10:35 a.m.

Associate Professor of Chemistry Ian Rosenstein attended the National Organic Symposium from June 25-28 at the University of Washington in Seattle.  This biennial conference, held by the Organic Division of the American Chemical Society, features invited talks on cutting edge research in all aspects of organic chemistry plus several hundred poster presentations.
