  • Hamilton College today introduces “The Scroll.” The Scroll was created by the college’s Communications and Web Services offices to aggregate moderated social media content in one location. This new tool helps tell the complete story of life before, during and after the Hill, with content from the community.

  • Hamilton College will host an International Writers Week, featuring readings by award-winning contemporary international novelist A.S. Byatt, poet Ishion Hutchinson, and novelist Kamila Shamsie ’94, on Feb. 26 – March 2. All the events are free and open to the public.

  • Marc Simon '94 was named event director of the U.S. PGA Merchandise Show, held annually in Orlando in January, and the U.S. PGA Expo in Las Vegas in August.  Previously, Simon was the PGA Gold Exhibitions group sale director and has been a member of the PGA Show management team since 1998.

  • Seamlessly and loquaciously describing his experiences as an embedded combat advisor, Hamilton alumnus Matt Zeller ’04 returned to the Hill on Feb. 7 to present a sobering yet inspirational recounting of his service in Afghanistan and the lessons he learned there.

  • John G. Rice ’78, vice chair of General Electric Company (GE), was featured on Bloomberg Television’s “Surveillance” in an interview that identified him as a graduate of Hamilton College and referenced the College’s Economics department.

  • Immerse yourself in a visual and textual telling of Hamilton history with the new Hamilton Timeline, a dramatic digital rendering of the Hill past and present.  The timeline, designed to celebrate Hamilton’s Bicentennial, recounts the history of the college starting with the pre-Hamilton days and Samuel Kirkland’s plan to educate the Indians. Significant events in Hamilton’s history are portrayed through photos and text.

  • Matt Zeller ’04, who served as an embedded combat adviser with the Afghan security forces in Ghazni and then wrote about his experiences, will give a lecture on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, KJ. The lecture, titled after his book “Watches Without Time: An American Soldier in Afghanistan,” is free and open to the public.

  • Nancy Dafoe K'74, P'04 will be releasing Breaking Open the Box: A Guide for Creative Techniques to Improve Academic Writing and General Creative Thinking with Rowman & Littlefield Education this March. The educational textbook explores the ways in which students are gradually taught to incorporate creativity in writing specifically structured essays.  Teaching students to use creative techniques and make creative decisions about rhetorical structures fosters critical thinking skills and improves writing, according to the author.
