Students on the Hamilton Junior Year in France program escaped the four inches of snow that fell on Paris during the weekend of January 19-20 to travel to Provence.

More than 80 students volunteered at non-profit agencies in the local community on Saturday, Jan. 26, for Hamilton’s 15th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day. Hamilton Association for Volunteering, Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) sent groups of students to 19 different sites to spend the afternoon working on various projects.

Five members of Hamilton’s class of 2013 spent a week shadowing resident physicians at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, from Jan. 14-18.  Tiffany Andrade, Emma Geduldig, Robert Hawkins, Megan Lander and Akritee Shrestha all received real-life experience in medical careers. The program, “A Week in the Life of a Family Medicine Resident,” is in its eight consecutive year.

Associate Professor of Art Ella Gant and 15 students participating in the spring 2013 New York City Program started the semester with a visit to the studio of visual artist Spencer Finch '85.

During the two weeks before they returned to campus, some 143 Hamilton sophomores got a close look at possible careers as they took part in the third HamiltonExplore, sponsored by the Career Center.

Although many Hamilton students just finished arriving on campus for the spring semester, a group of 55 students quickly turned around and boarded a bus late Sunday night for a 24-hour round trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the Inauguration Day ceremony for President Barack Obama’s second term.

In an effort to change our society for the better, former United States Ambassador Prudence Bushnell believes that we must train our leaders at an early age.  While students at West Point, Annapolis and other military academies receive top-notch leadership training, most civilian students are not given these opportunities. To fill this void, Bushnell partnered with Hamilton’s Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center to create the Levitt Leadership Institute (LLI).

Three students were inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, at the conclusion of the fall 2012 semester. The new members are Alex Gioia ’14, Megan McCareins ’14 and Ben Yudysky ’14. They join current member and chapter president Laurie Sadove ’13.

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer is among members of the Hamilton community who are in Washington, D.C. for President Barack Obama’s inauguration today.  The Hamilton College Democrats left for Washington at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, and arrived today at 4 a.m.  Jack Cartwright ’15  is one of the students there to watch the inauguration with his father, Matt Cartwright ’83, a new member of Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 17th district.

The New York Program visit to BNY Mellon at One Wall St. consisted of a luncheon, followed by a panel discussion with alums and parents of Hamilton College students, then a tour of the company’s museum, which holds a loan agreement signed by Alexander Hamilton given to the U.S. government. The trip ended with a brief tour of the company’s former public banking floor,  known as the Red Room.
