  • Twenty Hamilton students returned to campus on Jan. 13 to participate in the second Levitt Leadership Institute (LLI) which continues through Jan. 18.  The program was designed and is led by Ambassador Prudence Bushnell with the assistance of Christine Powers and is intended to provide strong leadership training for students.  The LLI was made possible by the generous financial support of Arthur Levitt, Jr. P'81, and the Norman and Rosita Winston Foundation.

  • As the fall semester concluded, Hamilton students on the New York Program toured the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to hear about the global macroeconomic trends and visit the Reserve gold vault. They met with Paolo Pesenti, vice president in the research department and former Princeton, NYU and Columbia Professor. Pesenti presented on the dynamics of the current international economy, paying special attention to the Euro area crisis.

  • Two poems by Marty Cain ’13 were accepted by [PANK] Magazine and are slated to appear in the March 2013 online issue, including audio recordings of Cain reading the poems. The magazine will also be publishing an interview with Cain on its website.

  • Co-ed a capella group Duelly Noted is preparing for its third annual concert tour over Hamilton’s winter break.   The four-day tour will include performances in New York State, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

  • Alex Thompson ’13, who interned at biotechnology company Genentech in San Francisco last summer, coauthored a paper in The Journal of Organic Chemistry as a result of his research.  The paper, “The Cyanide Anion as a Leaving Group in Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution: Synthesis of Quaternary Centers at Azine Heterocycles,” was co-authored with his supervisor, research associate Malcolm Huestis. Thompson worked as an intern in the Small Molecule Drug Discovery Department.

  • On Dec. 15, students from the Hamilton College Junior in France (HCJYF) program visited several covered passages, or arcades, in the heart of Paris.

  • Hamilton students took a break from preparing for final exams as they enjoyed an all-campus study break on Dec. 18 at the Sadove Student Center.  Student Activities sponsored the event that included snowflake making, free hot cocoa, coloring, chair massages and movies. Attendees also stopped to make cards and write messages for the families affected by the tragedy in Sandy Hook, Conn.

  • For the third semester, Hamilton students were able to take a break from studying for finals and spend some time relaxing with pets from the Rome Humane Society in an event hosted by HAVOC and Active Minds.  Three cats were brought to the Fillius Events Barn for the event on Dec. 13, followed by two dogs on the 14th.

  • (Elizabeth) Libby Chamberlin ’14 had a memorable birthday as she turned 22 on 12/12/12. At precisely 12:12 p.m. that day she was in Professor John O’Neal’s French class when the a capella group the Hamiltones stopped in to serenade her.  The sing was organized by O’Neal and Chamberlin’s friend Louisa Savage ’13.

  • The Hamilton College men’s soccer team recently collected and donated winter clothing to the Rescue Mission and Operation Sunshine in the Utica, N.Y., area.
