Elizabeth Benjamin graduated last spring with a degree in anthropology and Hispanic studies. While at Hamilton, she was a member of the national champion women's lacrosse team. This past summer, Elizabeth had the opportunity to combine her academic and extra-curricular interests by working with Safe Passage (Camino Seguro). Safe Passage is an organization based in Guatemala City, Guatemala that is devoted to assisting the poorest members of the community. Elizabeth spent two months with the organization as a classroom assistant, working with 5th and 2nd grade students and sharing her love of lacrosse.

Thanks to the generous support of young alumni, Hamilton is pleased to name Christina Matulaitis '09 of Brewster, Mass. as its 23rd GOLD Scholar. Christina recently sat down to reflect on her Hamilton experience so far, and here's what she shared. "Recent graduates should never underestimate the power of a small donation. I intend to give back to the school every year, although it might be nominal in those first few years out. Alumni generosity made it possible for me to attend an amazing institution like Hamilton, which inspires me to give back in order to complete the cycle.."

The car ride from Albany to Boston was long, but worth it. As a 10-year-old, Whitney Overocker ’09 joined her mother on a trip to see a Claude Monet exhibition. Overocker remembers admiring the resplendent light that Monet cast on lily pads and haystacks and the Notre Dame cathedral. Her childhood awe transformed into an academic interest in the history of art when she took a class on Renaissance Art with John and Anne Fischer Professor in Fine Arts John McEnroe. Overocker is interning this summer at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (PGC) of Modern Art in Venice, Italy. 

Eco-friendly bangles, enterprising it-girls, chaussuriers-on-the-make, and gourmet cupcakes on wheels. Jenna Fain '09 has covered it all, with flair. She is assistant editor of The Supermelon, an online publication that compiles the latest trends in international fashion, art, music and travel.

"The field of health care is constantly changing, as are the volunteers," says Jennifer Strater '10. Part of her job as an intern this summer is policing these changes and making sure that employees at the Kershaw County Community Medical Center are adapting to technological advancements. Strater is a computer science major with an undying interest in health care, so the opportunity, which placed her in the midst of modern computer technology, is an ideal blend of the two fields.

Recent Hamilton graduate Eric Kuhn took part in a discussion of the value of social networks in hunting for a job on a June 1 WNBC-TV (New York City) morning broadcast on "Today in New York." Kuhn is also one of four 2009 college graduates featured on the professional social networking site LinkedIn in a YouTube video that instructs students on how to effectively market themselves online.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry Bradley M. Wile and recent Hamilton graduate Kathryn Manning '09 presented their research at the 92nd Canadian Society for Chemistry Conference and Exhibition held May 30-June 3 in Hamilton, Ontario. Manning's poster titled "The Synthesis and Characterization of a Phosphine(Imino)Pyridine Ligand and the Related Transition Metal Complexes" focused on research conducted throughout the 2008-09 academic year as a part of her senior thesis project.

The second annual Cram & Scram recycling effort has come to a close with unprecedented results. Fifteen students led by Ashley Langer '09 dedicated more than 1,000 hours of work within a two-week period, and their hard work paid off – this year's group demonstrated an intense commitment that prompted outstanding results.

Matthew Eichenfield '09 presented at the "Barcamp San Diego," a technology conference held at Intuit's San Diego Campus on May 30-31. His presentation was titled "Analyzing Artifacts: What Computers Can Tell Us About Archaeology" and was the culmination of his year-long independent study project with Nathan Goodale, assistant professor of anthropology.

Two Hamilton College women's lacrosse players have been selected to the 2009 NCAA Division III All-America Team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and US Lacrosse.
