Allie Pohl '07 is continuing to attract attention with her artwork and her ideals. This November/ December edition of the Orlando Arts Magazine features her "Ideal Woman" work, which began as a series of sculptures that had chia growing out of where unwanted hair is. Pohl then transformed the shape into a pendant of a female torso.

Six Hamilton students spent the fall semester on the New York State Independent College Consortium for Study in India (NYSICCSI) program. Katie Barth ’12, Katherine Costa ’12, Beth Foster ’12, Kate Harloe ’12, Elsie Love ’12 and Charlotte Munson ’11 are part of the group, led this semester by faculty director Hamilton Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi and assistant director Hamilton alumnus Jack Reigeluth '07. The students traveled throughout northern India, took academic courses and conducted various independent fieldwork research projects.

Northern Illinois University Press has published a translation of Tamara Petkevich’s Memoir of a Gulag Actress, co-translated by Ross Ufberg '07 and Yasha Klots. In "an abridged translation that retains the grace and passion of the original," Ufberg and Yasha tell the story of a Russian girl whose father was arrested when she was 17 for his Communist beliefs and who was later arrested herself.

Alumni Keith Gross ’09 and Brendan Sullivan ’07 with Yale alumna Jennifer Lanski have published an article with Professor of Mathematics Richard Bedient and Yale Professor Michael Frame in the journal Fractals. The paper, titled “Higher Block IFS: Memory Reduction and Dimension Computations,” is the result of work over a period of years by the authors as parts of various senior projects.

Sarah Felder '07 is First Mate on the historic schooner Adventuress. She is starting her fifth season with Sound Experience, a group that seeks to teach people about the Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. This is Felder’s third time taking on the role of First Mate. 

A collection of jewelry by Allie Pohl '07 is featured in an Orlando Sentinel article titled “‘Ideal Woman’ necklace protests unrealistic view of beauty” (1/20/10). Pohl’s jewelry pieces – colorful pendants in the shape of a curvy female torso – symbolize the real woman and are designed to challenge the unattainable (and highly Photoshopped) images of beauty that saturate the media today. Pohl majored in communication and art at Hamilton.

Stefanie Russell '12, Jordan Fischetti '08 and Stephanie Wolter '07 attended the Bonner Summer Leadership Institute with Levitt Center Associate Director for Community Research Judith Owens-Manley in Deland, Fla., in June. The group presented two workshops at the conference: “Refugee & Immigrant Issues: Deepening Levels of Engagement” and “The Beginnings of a Youth Development Project: Challenges & Rewards.”

Hamilton College men's basketball 1,000-point scorer Nick Jones '07 was photographed and appeared in a feature story posted on ESPN.com June 18 about the Obama administration's impact on the sport.

Judy Owens-Manley, director of the Bonner Leaders Program and Levitt Center associate director of community research; Jordan Fischetti '08 and Stephanie Wolter '07, both Hamilton graduates and AmeriCorps VISTA Service-Learning Coordinators at Hamilton; and Stefanie Russell '12, a Bonner Leader and Bonner Congress Representative presented two workshops at the Bonner Summer Leadership Institute on June 3-6.
