Meredith Mileti '83 has published her debut novel Aftertaste: A Novel in Five Courses. The book is about Mira Rinaldi, a New York City restaurant owner with roots in Pittsburgh who must figure out how to hold her life together when she discovers her husband cheating on her. Mileti began writing the story several years ago while she was working on her dissertation and was inspired by her own love of cooking. Recipes she tested herself are included in the book.

The Boston Globe featured gay rights activist Mary Bonauto '83 in an article about President Obama's decision to determine whether or not the Defense of Marriage Act was constitutional. The president's change in position on the Defense of Marriage Act and his administration's decision to look further into it has been labeled a pivotal moment in the gay rights crusade. The article, titled "Gay Marriage Legal Strategist Is Taking On National Role" (Feb. 28, 2011), discussed how this decision affected Bonauto, as well as praised her for her many accomplishments.

Michael Cooney '83, a partner in the law firm Nixon Peabody LLP, is expanding his practice and will divide his time between Rochester and the firm's office in Washington, D.C. Cooney has worked on concerns including tax-exemption and private foundation status, joint ventures between exempt entities and with for-profit partners, and unrelated business income tax. His practice concentrates on issues related to nonprofit and educational organizations and their corporate governance, fundraising, state regulation and taxation.
