What shaped them during their four years on College Hill? Which moments, mentors, and courses stand out?

May’s news topics included coverage of global politics, international student issues, and faculty evaluations, among others.

Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo recognized nine faculty members with Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards in three categories — career achievement, early career achievement, and notable year — at the May 6 faculty meeting.

Derek Jones, the Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, Emeritus, was a discussant for two papers presented recently at Rutgers University. He also published a paper co-authored with Associate Professor of Economics Jeff Pliskin.

Andrew Fredericks ’25 and Charlie Haberstock ’25 both received a 2025 Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, a national $40,000 grant to pursue a one-year passion project anywhere in the world. While receiving the award is a feat in and of itself, the two geosciences majors were particularly excited when they heard that the other had won. Close friends since their first year at Hamilton, the pair had supported each other throughout the Watson application process.

Ann Owen, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of Public Policy and Professor of Economics, recently presented at the University of Colorado at Boulder with Andrew Wei ’20 and former Hamilton professor Judit Temesvary.

Assistant professors Viva Horowitz (physics) and Wei Zhan (economics) were approved for tenure at the March meeting of the Board of Trustees.

A study of the relationship between political ads and consumer sentiment by Assistant Professor of Economics Cody Couture and Ann Owen, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of Public Policy and Professor of Economics, was recently published in the European Journal of Political Economy.
