Two exhibitions saturated with historical and cultural references, Karen Hampton: The Journey North and Tales of the Conjure Woman: Lady Fatima as Transmitted through Renée Stout, will open at Hamilton’s Wellin Museum of Art on Saturday, Oct. 3, with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The reception and exhibitions are free and open to the public and will be on view through Dec. 20.

The fall F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series starts Sunday, Sept. 27, as the Alloy Orchestra provides live accompaniment for The Man with a Movie Camera (1929). All F.I.L.M. screenings are on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. in the Bradford Auditorium in the Kirner-Johnson Building and are free and open to the public.

Four experts will debate fossil fuel divestment in a roundtable panel on Monday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m., in the Chapel. The roundtable, “Should Colleges Divest From Fossil Fuels?,” is sponsored by Hamilton’s Environmental Studies department and is free and open to the public.

Jack Gallant, Robert S. Morris Class of 1976 Visiting Fellow and an expert in the science of brain reading research, will present the Morris lecture on Monday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m., in the Taylor Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium.

Since the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art opened in 2012, its permanent collection has grown through gifts and select purchases. Wellin Collects, opening May 5, showcases new and recent acquisitions in a variety of media. Senior Art Thesis 2015, also opening on May 5, displays new work by graduating art majors. Spanning drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture, the exhibition represents a culmination of their studies.

American documentary filmmaker and Harvard University professor Ross McElwee will present his most recent film, Photographic Memory, on Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m., in Bradford Auditorium in the Kirner-Johnson Building. McElwee’s film is part of the spring F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series at Hamilton College and is free and open to public.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani, Pakistan's ambassador to the United States, has had to cancel his appearance at Hamilton College on Wednesday, April 29. The 8 p.m. lecture will not take place.    

Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW) with Cesar Chavez and recipient of the U.S. Medal of Freedom Award, will give the C. Christine Johnson Voices of Color Lecture, on Friday, April 24, at 5 p.m., in the Chapel. The talk is free and open to the public.

Jennifer Stevens Aubrey, an associate professor of communication at the University of Arizona, will present a lecture titled “Self-objectification and its Consequences: A Review of the Effects of Mediated Sexual Objectification on Adolescents and Young Adults” on Monday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m., in room 3024, Taylor Science Center.

The Hamilton College F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series continues on Sunday, April 19, with James Benning’s “California Trilogy,” a trio of environmentally aware feature films about California. The cine-marathon begins at 2 p.m. in Bradford Auditorium in the Kirner-Johnson Building. This and all F.I.L.M. events are free and open to the public.
