It's become a tradition for Hamilton students to visit nearby Clinton Elementary School to help children there learn Spanish. Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies Edna Rodriguez-Plate launched the volunteer program in 2012.

Brenda Narvaez '17 and Rachel Williams ’17 have been awarded the U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS). Narvaez will study Arabic will study in Oman and Williams will study Arabic in Morocco.

Poets and performers Sacharja Cunningham ’17 and Shaina Coronel ’17, along with Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Jessica Gordon-Burroughs, facilitated a bilingual spoken word project during the fall semester.

Twenty-two Hamilton students taught Spanish to Clinton Elementary School students this past semester. The program began on Oct. 3 and ended on Dec. 2. The Hamilton students attended a training workshop prior to the program to learn about different teaching strategies and develop ideas for activities.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Luisa Briones-Manzano recently presented a paper at the 18th International Congress of Literature and Hispanic Studies. The conference, sponsored by Lock Haven University, was held in the Basque city of San Sebastián, Spain.
