On Nov. 14, artist Jade Townsend gave a talk to the Hamilton College community, discussing a number of the installations, sculptures and drawings he has created throughout his career.

The Wellin Museum of Art welcomed 40 local teachers from nine school districts for An Evening of Art for Educators on Oct. 3. The event provided student docent-guided tours of the museum along with lesson plans related to its current exhibitions, A Sense of Place and Frohawk Two Feathers: You Can Fall.

“A CLEAR VIEW - The Wellin Museum of Art creates a new model for the university museum," an eight-page article published in the September/October issue of Museum Magazine, offers a glowing review of the museum, its staff and its programming. An article that appeared in the August issue of Interior Design magazine, “Edifying Edifices - College museums can teach much more than art history,” also celebrated the Wellin Museum.

Metropolis, Hyperallergic and BOMB magazine’s BOMBLOG have featured articles focused on Dannielle Tegeder’s solo exhibition, “Dannielle Tegeder: Painting in the Extended Field,” at the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art within the last week.

Hamilton’s up-and-coming artists and actors will have an integrated home when the new theatre and studio arts complex is completed in July 2014.  The new center will contain three main areas for the arts, theatre and digital arts and by virtue of its central location will become the “front porch” of campus,  according to Professor of Music Sam Pellman, who has led the campus planning committee for the new arts facilities.

The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum, Hamilton’s biggest summer construction project, is in its final stages.  Steve Bellona, associate vice president for facilities & planning, reported that  final finish work on the interior is in progress.  Wood flooring in the main gallery is being installed and is expected to be complete at the end of this week.
