As an academic he leans toward hands-on pursuits that take him far from Michigan State University, where he is professor emeritus of urban and regional planning. At the moment Roger Hamlin ’67 is a Senior Fulbright Scholar at a university in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Avery Lum ’22 had big plans this summer to take on a full-time fellowship with otolaryngologist Daniel Roberts ’97 at UConn. Then the coronavirus pandemic hit. Instead of taking the summer off, Lum devised a fall-back plan.

Ella Antolini ’21 has long had an interest in telehealth, and since the start of the pandemic, that interest has only become more pertinent. This summer she is interning in the neuroscience department of Maine Medical Center, working to review and improve telehealth services.

When the coronavirus forced an early end to her study abroad, computer science major Jiin Jeong ’21, set aside her disappointment to use technology to benefit other students thrust into remote learning and social distancing.

Lingli Zou ’22 is getting a jump start toward her goal of attending dental school. She’s been selected to participate in the University of Connecticut Health’s remote six-week medical/dental preparatory program on a track specifically designed for pre-dental students.

At the end of May, Hamilton’s Black and Latinx Student Union and Feminists of Color Collective saw an opportunity to enlist campus support for protestors who were speaking out nationally against police violence and white supremacy. The two organizations challenged fellow student groups to raise money for bail funds and other initiatives that supported the Black Lives Matter cause.
