Consider the endangered dusky gopher frog. When threatened, the best this three-inch amphibian can do is cover its eyes with its hands. By 2002, its habitat had shrunk to only one or two ponds in Mississippi. Last year at about this time, members of the Class of 2025 were starting to receive news about acceptances to post-graduate and professional degree programs. As a senior fellow, Julia Afsar-Keshmiri ’26 has amassed a network of scientists to further unravel the mysteries of brain development and neurodegenerative diseases. Through her fellowship, Afsar-Keshmiri has the opportunity to devote her entire senior year to her project, giving her a taste of life as a professional researcher.

In a moment marked by reflection and renewed connection, more than 120 Hamilton community members gathered in the Tolles Pavilion on Feb. 5 for the College’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dinner. Inspired by King’s vision of a “beloved community,” the gathering encouraged students, faculty, staff, and their guests to honor King’s legacy not only in word, but in practice across campus in everyday interactions.
