A Look Back at Fallcoming 2023
In addition, the Alumni Association honored Michael Seitzinger ’69 with the Jeff Little ’71 Volunteer of the Year Award, and Professor of Music “Doctuh” Mike Woods received the Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
Other weekend highlights included:
- Science and Levitt Center poster sessions featuring students’ summer research
- A rousing celebration of the 30th anniversary of Fallcoming Jazz, featuring guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli and his trio
- The grand re-opening of Burke Library, showcasing new spaces such as TECH Lab
- Football, a cross country invitational, men’s and women’s club soccer, and women’s rugby
- La Vanguardia’s Latinx Heritage Festival
- Student performances included a music concert with the College choir, jazz ensemble and orchestra, theatre project readings, a Yodapez performance, and an a cappella concert.
Bringing Hamiltonians Together
Fallcoming featured student research presentations and music performances, as well as a ribbon-cutting for the newly refurbished Burke Library.

Fallcoming attendees heard President David Wippman give his final College update in the Chapel, and later cheered on the Continentals during a rainy football game against Trinity.
“From your earliest days on College Hill, you have served your alma mater earnestly and with purpose,” noted the citation for Seitzinger, who has served Hamilton as class president, Career Center volunteer, and as a driving force for the Class of 1969’s 50th reunion gift of more than $5.7 million, which came from 89% of the class and earned him the Hamilton Fund Chair’s Award. He has also spearheaded highly successful efforts to create generous endowments for several men’s and women’s sports teams, including hockey, lacrosse, and basketball. Full Citation
Woods, a member of the faculty for three decades, is described in his citation as “a devoted teacher and an extraordinarily prolific and trailblazing composer who has written hundreds of compositions for choral, orchestral, chamber, and — most notably — jazz ensembles.” He was honored for helping to cultivate our community’s understanding of African American culture and history. “As an advisor and friend to countless students, including serving as mentor to the Miami Posse Class of 2022, your influence has extended well beyond the classroom and well beyond the campus,” the citation continued. “And you have used your remarkable gifts to speak forcefully against racial injustice to bring change and greater understanding.” Full Citation

Hamilton Welcomes New Faculty for 2023-24
Forty-two new faculty members are joining Hamilton’s ranks, including 11 tenure-track professors in anthropology, computer science, economics, environmental studies, geosciences, physics, and sociology in addition to visiting professors, lecturers, and teaching fellows.
More than 125 Hamilton students conducted research with faculty this summer, and the results of that work were on display in poster sessions held during Fallcoming. Some student researchers in the sciences and the Levitt Public Affairs Center talked with student writer Dana Blatte ’26 about what they learned.
