Greetings once again from the big city!  Life is busy, without much free time. Although I am only supposed to be at ABC from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, I have arrived at the office by 9:30 a.m. and have left around 7 or 7:30 p.m. every night. I am more interested in the places to go and things to do in this great city, but I have fewer hours for exploration.

This is the great predicament of the modern metropolis.  People put in their time at work to make the big-time bucks, or the medium-size bucks as one ABC animator so eloquently put it, but end up never having time to spend it on the things they enjoy.  Such an existence may create bitterness, but the city has a way of trapping people. As one of my producers said this week in reference to moving away from the city, "that is not a sacrifice I am willing to make."

There is something about this place that makes the thought of leaving seem like a sacrifice and life outside its boundaries unimaginable.  Where else is there light 24 hours a day or a 5 star restaurant across the street from a 33-cent dumpling hut?  Nowhere.  Nowhere else will you find as many people living such diverse lives.  I do not yet understand the addiction to these mean streets. Maybe I never will, and maybe I don't want to.

Help us provide an accessible education, offer innovative resources and programs, and foster intellectual exploration.
