Reuters News Service quoted Professor of Government Cheng Li in an article about the gap between the rich and the poor in China. The story discusses a study by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) that suggests China needs a balance of social equality and economic expansion in the near future.
It is predicted that social reform will progress slowly over the next couple years as the new generation of Chinese leaders tests it out. Li, an expert on Chinese politics, says, "Once [the leaders] get their feet wet, bridging China's regional and class abyss will take top priority. They have to do so. So I think the study…will make people pay attention."
