Katha Pollit, writer and columnist for The Nation, read from her work at Hamilton on October 25. The event, titled "Writing Memoir," was sponsored by the Writing Center and was part of the Writers on Writing series.

Pollit read two memoirs: "In the study group", about her experiences as a member of a Marxist study group, and "Memoir of a shy pornographer," about her job as a proofreader of pornographic novels. Both will be included in a book of memoirs by Pollit.

After the reading Pollit took audience questions. In response to a request to speak on being a writer, Pollit said, "Writing is very self-revealing. Your character comes through. It's a sort of frightening thought. [You think], Do I sound like a complete fool? Maybe you do. And maybe that's ok."
