Gibbons described DAAD as “an organization founded for the purpose of encouraging and providing resources for students around the world who wish to study and gain work experience, as well as providing resources for German students who wish to study abroad.” Its goals are to internationalize German universities and strengthening German language and culture abroad.
As a Young Ambassador, Gibbons promotes Germany as a study abroad option for students from the U.S. He also helps educate them on the financial support that DAAD offers. “Germany is a fascinating country by itself, but it also boasts impressive universities,” Gibbons said, noting that this combination makes it a perfect place to broaden one’s horizon.

Gibbons attended a conference hosted by DAAD in August where he learned more about his role in educating students about academic opportunities in Germany. “I learned much more about the individual programs and resources available to students that I could share, as well as strategies for presenting students with this information, especially during such unconventional times as these,” he said. “Some strategies we discussed at the conference were class drop-in presentations and cultural events.”
As he begins his final year at Hamilton, Gibbons feels fortunate to have this opportunity to maintain his connection to Germany while finishing his biology studies and looking ahead toward a career in environmental conservation.
