The Hamilton College Continentals won for the third time in four games with a 62-46 non-conference victory against the SUNY New Paltz Hawks at Hamilton’s Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Tuesday night.

The Continentals (5-4 overall) held the Hawks -- an NCAA playoff team last winter -- to 30.2 percent shooting from the floor. Hamilton’s defense allowed just 16 baskets and has held its last four opponents to a field-goal percentage of 28.3 percent.
Dani Feigin ’14 led all scorers with 18 points and Samantha Graber ’16 and Carly Gruenberg ’16 added 12 apiece for the Continentals. Olivia Pimm ’14 pulled down 12 rebounds (the Continentals outrebounded New Paltz 43-35) and scored eight points. Graber and Gruenberg both collected six rebounds. Gruenberg and Feigin finished with three assists apiece.
Hamilton took control with a 26-2 run that spanned both halves. The Continentals scored the last nine points of the first half for a 34-24 lead at the break and opened the second period with a 17-2 run. The Hawks missed eight of their first nine shots after intermission.
The Hawks (2-7) jumped out to a 9-6 lead before Hamilton ran off 17 of the next 19 points and opened up a 23-12 advantage. After a 10-0 run by the visitors cut the Continental lead to a point, Hamilton started its 26-2 spurt and was never threatened again.
Shannan Walker ’15 and Goldie Harrison ’16 led New Paltz with 11 points apiece, and Walker added four steals. Jeanette Scott ’14 collected seven rebounds and Ashley Reifenhauser ’16 finished with nine points and six rebounds.
Hamilton plays a 2 p.m. non-conference game at Buffalo State College on Saturday, Dec. 14. The Hawks are idle until Jan. 7 against SUNY Cortland.
