Hamilton Again a Top Fulbright Producer

Thirty-six Hamilton students and graduates applied for the 2024-25 academic year cycle. Of those, 13 were named semi-finalists, six were awarded the grant, and two were selected as alternates. Recipients are pursuing Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships in Peru, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Kazakhstan.
“These grantees represent only the most fortunate of many worthy candidates who pursued Fulbright Scholarships last year,” said Lisa Grimes, student fellowships director. “It’s wonderful to think about the new experiences they’re having and how they’re growing as they represent the College and the United States abroad.”
The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announced the top-producing institutions for the Fulbright Program, the government’s flagship international educational exchange program, on Feb. 25. Hamilton has been a top-producing college every year since Fulbright began making this designation in 2004. More than 145 Hamilton seniors have been named Fulbright U.S. students since 2005-06.
Fulbright alumni have included 44 heads of state or government, 62 Nobel Laureates, 90 Pulitzer Prize winners, 82 MacArthur Fellows, and countless leaders and changemakers who build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those of other countries.
Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research abroad. Fulbrighters — as the program refers to them — exchange ideas, build people-to-people connections, and work to address complex global challenges.
“The Fulbright application process at Hamilton helps promote personal and professional development and refinement of goals for candidates regardless of the outcome,” Grimes added. “I hope that more students and recent alumni will take advantage of resources offered by the Office of Student Fellowships. They can reach out to me to get started.”
