Andrade, an intended world politics major, will be at CIEE Study Abroad Amsterdam, where she’ll take classes focused on either public health in the Netherlands or gender and race.
“I am most looking forward to learning about the culture and seeing how the countries customs work,” Andrade said. “I’m excited to explore the city, go to museums, and make connections with the people I meet there. I want to bike, try the food, and just immerse myself completely in the country.”
At Hamilton, Andrade is active with Sadove student programming, club soccer, ATX sorority, and as a QuestBridge scholar.
Leon will study at Advanced Studies in Bath, England, where she’ll have the opportunity to take classes that are not available at Hamilton such as children’s literature, film screenwriting, and film production.”
A creative writing major and cinema & media studies minor, Leon said she’s “most looking forward to exploring the new culture, trying the new foods, and fully experiencing what it is like to live outside of the United States.”
At Hamilton, Leon has been involved in several Theatre Department mainstage productions and has also worked on three theatre senior theses. She is treasurer of Poetry Slam and involved in Culture Magazine.
The Gilman Scholarship Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, offers grants up to $5,000 to undergraduates for academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad. Such international exchange is intended to prepare U.S. students to assume roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.
