Right before Spring Break, members of Hamilton Microfinance met with Tom Owens, CEO of ACCESS Federal Credit Union in Clinton, to evaluate the application of their second loan candidate this year. The recipient chosen was Joseph Rogers.
“I'm truly thankful for the opportunity to realize the dream of starting and owning my own business,” said Rogers.
He plans to use the money to open an apparel shop called “ANY 20” that will provide quality men's clothing at bargain prices. As a native of Utica, Rogers looks forward to serving the local community.
Rogers said, “I think it's wonderful of Hamilton’s microfinance organization to assist and encourage new business owners with a much-needed push in the right direction financially, but more importantly, their trust in my vision.”
Hamilton Microfinance members present to make the decision were Cat Crandall ’15, Dawit Kassa ’17, Victoria Madsen ’16, Sarah Magee ’18, Oliver Magnusson ’17, Joana Mora ’18, Ilana Schwartz ’17, Dylan Thies ’17, and Lisa Yang ’17.
Hamilton Microfinance thanked Owens for his facilitation of the loan application evaluation process. The group also appreciates the College’s generous support of and active participation in the organization’s events such as the recent Date Auction Fundraiser that raised $1,300 toward these loans.
