James P. Du Vernay ’03 recently became the new United States Consul for Western France at the U.S. Consulate in Rennes. Du Vernay succeeds Sara Harriger as the U.S. Consul and took over the new position at the end of August 2018.
As a U.S. diplomat, Du Vernay has led a lengthy career across the globe. He served as the supervisory director of logistics at the American embassies of both Tunisia and Mali, where he oversaw teams of 60 people that handled a variety of functions such as official housing and international shipping. At the U.S. Embassy in Caracas he served as the director of human resources, managing personnel services for 500 employees. Earlier assignments included appointments to the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as an economic officer at the Bureau of Energy Resources in Washington D.C.

Du Vernay speaks French, Spanish, and varying degrees of Italian, Vietnamese, and Urdu. He is an avid runner who has completed three Paris Marathons, and lives with his wife and two trilingual sons.
