“You Want Me to Watch Listening to Kenny G!!!?: An Interview with Penny Lane,” by Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald, was published as a web exclusive in the current issue of Cineaste magazine.
Listening to Kenny G (2021, HBO), is one in a series of documentaries Lane has made since switching from making short experimental and avant-garde films to more commercial ones.
In the interview, the filmmaker discussed her motivation for making the film and her expectations for the final result, as well as the process of pulling it all together during a pandemic.
Lane has been a guest of MacDonald’s F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series several times, most recently in 2018 when she screened her film The Pain of Others.
