I am thrilled and honored to announce the appointment of Kristine R. Fowler as our next Thomas E. Murphy Director of Athletics and Chair of the Physical Education Department.
Kristine is a distinguished higher education administrator who will bring more than 25 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics administration, as well as exceptional leadership and stakeholder engagement skills. She steps into the role of Director of Athletics following the retirement of Jon Hind ’80, who served in that position for almost two decades.
Kristine has served as the Senior Deputy Athletics Director & Chief Operating Officer at Dartmouth College since October 2022. She was instrumental in shaping the strategic direction for a department composed of 35 varsity teams, 950 student-athletes, and 170 staff and coaches. The search committee was impressed by Kristine's consistent track record of success throughout her career in elevating programs, securing buy-in for strategic initiatives, and ensuring operational excellence at the highest level.
At Dartmouth, Kristine was part of an executive team that generated more than $50 million in annual giving, capital gifts, and endowments within just two fiscal years, and she supported the deployment of $45 million across four major capital projects. In addition, she spearheaded a comprehensive and forward-thinking Gender Equity Plan, serving as the Senior Woman Administrator within the Ivy League Governance structure, and leading high-profile hiring searches for executive staff and head coaches.
Prior to Dartmouth, Kristine held other leadership positions, including Deputy AD & COO at the Army West Point Athletics Association. There, she was an integral member of the senior leadership team that secured $95 million for the landmark Michie Stadium Preservation Project. Her background also includes serving as a Senior Associate AD at Indiana University, where she directed compliance operations in alignment with rigorous NCAA, Big Ten, and university standards.
Kristine holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from the University of Nebraska and a Master of Science degree in Sport Management from Barry University, where she graduated with high honors.
I am delighted to welcome Kristine, her husband, Joseph, and their children, Kennedy and Jefferson, to our community and to work with her to support and advance our athletics, physical education, and recreation programs.
As we prepare for Kristine’s arrival, I would like to take a moment to extend my sincerest gratitude to Deidre Pierson for serving as our Interim Director of Athletics during this transition and to the many colleagues in the Physical Education Department who took on extra responsibilities.
I also wish to thank members of the search committee who worked deliberately and collaboratively throughout the fall on this search:
