Leila Simona Talani will present a lecture about Europe’s migration crisis on Monday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Red Pit, KJ. This lecture is free and open to the public, and sponsored by the Levitt Public Affairs Center.
Since 2015, Europe has struggled with how to respond to increasing numbers of refugees, migrants, and other displaced peoples. Talani will address how political and economic factors condition Europe’s response; how the crisis influences the already tumultuous European political environment; and how the various responses throughout Europe reverberate in the international economic order.
Talani, this semester’s Levitt Center Scholar-in-Residence, is professor of international political economy at King’s College London and a visiting professor at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. She studies and teaches on globalization, the effects of the migration crisis and the consequences of the global financial crisis on capitalist structures.
Talani has written several books, including The Arab Spring in the Global Political Economy and The Political Economy of Italy in the Euro, the latter of which provides a framework for examining international economic and monetary arrangements.
