Director of the Days-Massolo Center Paola Lopez and Associate Dean of Diversity & Inclusion Maria Genao-Homs recently presented at the 2021 National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Multicultural Institute in New Orleans. The theme of this year’s conference was advancing equity and inclusive practice.

In their talk, “LGBTQIA+ Student Support: Transformative Work in Supporting LGBTQIA+ Students Amid Virtual Operations,” Lopez and Genao-Homs focused on the Days-Massolo Center’s development of a unique direct support service for LGBTQIA+ students as the College shifted to remote operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Included was a discussion of the role of the LGBTQIA+ identity specialist and how LGBTQIA+ students’ socioemotional development can be supported in a virtual setting through non-clinical individual support and staff-led support groups.
