Netflix co-founder and 1981 Hamilton graduate Marc Randolph will present a lecture, “That’s the Stupidest Idea I’ve Ever Heard ... And Other Lessons Learned from 40 Years as an Entrepreneur,” on Monday, Oct. 1, at 4:10 p.m., in the Chapel. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, can be viewed live on Facebook.

Marc Randolph ’81 is one of 10 individuals who used College Hill as a launching pad, and who are championing new ideas, challenging old conventions, pushing boundaries, and, in doing so, advancing their professions.

Marc Randolph is a veteran Silicon Valley entrepreneur, advisor and investor. He was co-founder of the online movie and television streaming service Netflix, serving as its founding CEO, as the executive producer of its website, and as a member of its board of directors until his retirement in 2004.

Although best known for starting Netflix, Randolph’s career as an entrepreneur spans more than four decades. He’s been a founder of more than half a dozen other successful start-ups, a mentor to hundreds of early stage entrepreneurs, and an investor in numerous successful tech ventures.

Most recently, Randolph co-founded analytics software company Looker Data Sciences. He is a frequent speaker at industry events, works extensively with young entrepreneur programs, and is a trustee of the nonprofit National Outdoor Leadership School and the environmental advocacy group One Percent for the Planet.
