Hamilton College Performing Arts presents an evening of new and traditional bluegrass with Noam Pikelny and Friends on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.
The band will feature Noam Pikelny (banjo), Bryan Sutton (guitar), Luke Bella (fiddle), Barry Bales (bass), and Jesse Cobb (mandolin). Each of the band members is considered to be one of the best musicians on their instrument in the field today.
Noam Pikelny has emerged as the preeminent banjoist among a new generation of acoustic musicians. Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as the “pro’s top banjo picker,” Pikelny is a founding member of Punch Brothers. He has helped broaden the awareness of the banjo in the mainstream through numerous collaborations on stage and in the studio.
In September 2010, Pikelny was awarded the first Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass. He was recently nominated for a Grammy for his album Beat the Devil and Carry a Rail. His most recent recording, Noam Pikelny Plays Kenny Baker Plays Bill Monroe, was released this past October on Compass Records.
