Competition was heated in the Field House on Feb. 11 and it wasn’t even a NESCAC athletic contest.
Teams of students took part in The Charity FUN(d) Fest, a series of competitions hosted by The Inter-Society Council (ISC). The event raised $5,314 for Be The Match, No One Left Behind, the Midtown Utica Community Center and Planned Parenthood.
More than 200 students came to hear representatives from each of the charities speak, and a number of the students were randomly chosen to participate in various competitions. Competitions included orientation games led by Andrew Jillings, a hotdog eating contest won by Jordan Jenkins ’17, a date auction which raised over $700 dollars, and a quarter-mile relay race.
The night kicked off with remarks from President David Wippman and a dance performance by the Midtown Utica Community Center’s troupe.
“The Intersociety Council hopes to grow this event and make it an annual tradition,” said Silvia Radelescu ’17, who is ISC co-chair with Jeremy Cottle ’17. “We hope the event will continue to bring together the various Greek societies and the campus-at large for causes near and dear to the hearts of Hamilton community members.”
Mary Margaret Allen ‘17 chaired the Philanthropy Initiative Committee. Other members of the committee, who have been working on the event since October, are Chris Hart ’19, John Dorer ’19, Lauren Pyo ’17, Natalie Basta ’19, Sawyer Frisbie ’19, and Tayzia Santiago ’19.
