Carlo Benavides ’23, summer fellow at the DMC, reflected on the success of the weekend’s trip, saying, “I heard everyone enjoyed themselves and had plenty of excitement in the city.” Benavides was in charge of the DMC’s Pride Month Committee and coordinates the organization’s summer programming on campus.
During June, for example, the committee sponsored weekly Pride in the Park events. At these gatherings, staff and students enjoyed music, games, and local food in the DMC house or outside on its lawn. “The Pride in the Park luncheon series started last summer,” Benavides said. “We wanted to have an event where the campus community could come together over delicious food and celebrate Pride Month.”
These regular get-togethers have been the DMC’s “most attended summer event consistently,” he added. “It’s amazing to see so many people enjoy the DMC, especially over the summer.”
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
At Hamilton, we embrace diversity, commit to work against systemic racism and bigotry, and support a community where all individuals, without exception, feel valued, empowered, and treated fairly.
In addition to the weekly Pride in the Park gatherings, the Pride Month Committee also organized events such as Pride Game Night held earlier in June. Continuing to put together activities during the summer has allowed the DMC to grow and maintain the supportive community it fosters throughout the academic year. June festivities will conclude with a Last Night of Pride celebration on June 30 in the Events Barn.
Although Benavides headed the Pride Month Committee this summer, he made clear that nothing was a solo effort. “This year we were blessed with an amazing committee of students who have been invaluable in this month’s programming,” he said. They include Leslie De La Rosa ’25, Kat Leon ’25, Diego E. Inzunza ’25, Dani Bernstein ’24, Melissa (Aurelie) Kaleka ’24, Diane Ntaganda ’26, and Uriah Adeniran ’26.
