Alan Cafruny

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of International Affairs and Professor of Government, recently presented at “Taking on the Right,” the Historical Materialism annual conference at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.

As a member of a panel on “The Left, Britain, and the European Crisis,” Cafruny discussed the origins of the crisis, the plight of the contemporary European Left parties amid the rise of right-wing populism and neo-fascism, and strategies toward the European Union.

The presentation was based on “The European Crisis and the Left,” Cafruny’s essay that was recently published as a chapter in the Socialist Register 2019: A World Turned Upside Down. The panel served as the launch for the 55th edition of the Socialist Register.
