This week, I decided to try out the city's nightlife and discovered even more so than before that this is a city of single people. I read recently that two thirds of people in Manhattan are single compared to one half in the rest of the U.S. I went out with the intention of having fun and meeting some new people in this huge place where I know so few. It turns out that was not an option.  Everywhere I went, everyone was looking to meet someone, but they all had ulterior motives. For example, I had a lot of fun, interesting conversation with this guy I met standing at the bar. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but when it was time to move on, he asked for my number. It made me think; was he only talking to me because he wanted my number? Couldn't this have just been a good conversation to add to my fabulous night with no romantic intentions? I guess not in a single city like this.
