Working and studying in a global city has made me realize how important it is not to live in a bubble, as students sometimes do at Hamilton. In my internship in foreign exchange at Lehman Brothers, I repeatedly find myself sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the latest GDP numbers to be announced or for the EU to reveal their newest policy adjustment.
In this city, such global announcements have widespread effects. Success requires awareness of global events. At Hamilton, we sometimes create a bubble that shields us from the world. There are advantages and disadvantages to both learning environments. However, this internship experience has made me far more conscious of global events. When I return to Hamilton, I will be making much more of an effort to stay on top of what occurs off the Hill.
