Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer directs the play, modern retelling of the Greek tragedy set in the Oval Office 2017, and explores kakocracy - rule or government by the worst of the people, authoritarianism, misogyny, hubris.

Anne Carson did a staged reading of Antigonick at Hamilton in September when she visited the College as Tolles lecturer.

Performances will run Thursday, April 13, through Saturday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m., and Wednesday, April 19 through Saturday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. There are two matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, and April 22. All performances take place in the new state-of-the-art Romano Theatre within the Kennedy Center for Theatre and the Studio Arts.

Antigonick features a cast of 18 Hamilton students. Designers Sara Walsh, Jeff Larson, Amy Petta and Derek Van Heel create the play’s setting and vision.

Carson’s version of the play debuted in 2012 and has been produced at other colleges including Harvard, Lewis & Clark and Whitman College (Wash., and by theatre companies in Chicago, the San Francisco Bay area and Ft. Myers, Fla.
