This year marks the 25th anniversary of the initial running of the Utica Boilermaker marathon, which is today internationally known and attracts participants from around the world. In this extensively illustrated volume commemorating the anniversary, John Pitarresi, a sports writer for the Utica Observer-Dispatch since 1973, tells the remarkable story of the Boilermaker’s success from its beginnings as “the germ of an idea” to the most recent race, which featured the now customary world-class runners among its more than 10,000 participants. The author, who has covered the Boilermaker as a reporter since 1984, collaborated on the publication with fellow Hamiltonian Jorge Hernandez, also a member of the Observer-Dispatch’s staff.
