Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures Zhuoyi Wang recently published a film review of Joy Ride on the U.S.-based Chinese-language new media outlet WHYNOT.
The review is titled “‘Objectifies Men, Targets White People’?: The New Asian-American Film 'Joy Ride' Reverts Gendered and Racial Gazes in Hollywood Raunchy Comedies.” The article analyzes how Joy Ride represents a breakthrough in Hollywood raunchy comedies by comparing it with earlier works of the same genre, including National Lampoon's Animal House (1978), Knocked Up (2007), The Hangover (2009), and Bridesmaids (2011).
