Moving In Day
Move in day was great for me because I came a day early and had no problems with settling in.  The first thing I noticed was that the apartment building is structured like the Ritz-Carlton.  Then as I entered the apartment and settled in, I couldn't help but be amazed at the view we have right from our living room windows.  From one window you can see Brooklyn and Staten Island, and from the other window you can see the penthouse of the Ritz-Carlton right across the street.  You can also check out the view of Jersey City and our lovely Lady Liberty.
The next day, parents, students and friends swarmed the apartment moving the student's stuff in.  There were at least five types of "Rebecca" nicknames used, and the women of the house were trying to figure out the best way to utilize the sardine can a.k.a. our room.  As we fixed our rooms, John (Beach) set up our private movie cinema with surround sound everywhere and a million DVDs from which to choose.

The Wretched Walking Tour
Where do I start?  Where else in America would someone be so in love with touring the city that he would even take along 15 extra people in the freezing cold?  Where else but New York City, where the weather is only 10 degrees and the wind is holding me horizontally as I listen.  Our first event for orientation was to go on a walking tour of our neighborhood, Battery Park.  As we all learned the meaning and experience of frostbite, we tried our best to enjoy the tour.

"Are your toys like this at home?"
The trip to the museum of the city of New York was great.  The artifacts and scenery that we saw were absolutely amazing.  The exhibits included the original Monopoly game, the original Curious George, and the actual rooms of the Rockefeller family home. Each time we passed these, our delightful tour guide would ask "Do you have these at home?" or "Do your rooms look like this?"

Ellis Island
Ellis Island is a place everyone should visit.  Visiting this historical site, seeing the Statue of Liberty reminded me to value being an American citizen in a free nation.   Standing more than 100 ft. tall, Lady Liberty is the most impressive sight to see in the middle of the Hudson River.
