Season Update
- The nationally ranked No. 6 Continentals (21-5-2 overall) move on to the NCAA championship quarterfinals and a matchup with No. 5 Adrian College (26-3-0) in Adrian, Mich., on Saturday, March 11, at 3 p.m.
- No. 12 Nazareth (22-6-1) was the United Collegiate Hockey Conference regular season and tournament champions.
How It Happened
Hamilton received its offense from some unlikely sources. In the first period Abby Smith ’24 drove hard towards the net from the right wing and sent the puck into the crease. Defender Sami Quackenbush ’24 was positioned near the left post and redirected the puck into the back of the net at 6:51 of the first.
Ivey Lyden tied the score for the Golden Flyers later in the period with one second left on a power play. Delaney Carle and Abbey Luth had the assists on Lyden’s goal with 4:32 remaining in the first.
The Continentals took the lead for good 9:46 into the second period. Loh took the puck behind the Nazareth net and backhanded a centering pass to defender Cuora Sullivan ’26. Sullivan gained control of the puck in the right faceoff circle and her wrist shot beat the goaltender high on the right side.
Loh gave Hamilton a 3-1 advantage on a power-play goal with 4:35 to go in the second. Abby Kuhns ’23 took a shot that was blocked and Hyla Mosher ’23 controlled the loose puck. Mosher passed to Loh in the left faceoff circle and her wrist shot pinballed off two Golden Flyers in front of the crease and into the net.
The Continentals gave Nazareth four minutes of power play on two tripping penalties midway through the third period, but the Golden Flyers managed just two shots on goal during those opportunities.
Nazareth tried to pull its goaltender for an extra skater for most of the last three minutes, but Hamilton was able to keep the puck out of its defensive zone for the most part. The Golden Flyers were forced to keep their goaltender on the ice as the Continentals fought hard to keep possession of the puck.
Nazareth didn’t record a single shot during the last four minutes.
