The Dean of Faculty office supports the professional development of all Hamilton’s faculty members—visiting, term, tenure-track, and tenured.

It is typical for new and early career faculty members to need information and guidance as they enter the profession, but the need for professional development persists throughout all stages of a faculty member’s career. Creating a network of individuals who can assist in this process enables faculty members to address issues across a variety of areas and stages of career.

Whether through the formal one-on-one mentoring program that Hamilton provides for its tenure-track faculty, departmental mentoring, college-wide workshops, or informal mentoring relationships, we encourage faculty members to seek out multiple opportunities to discuss professional development issues with other faculty members, staff members, and the members of the Dean of Faculty office.

Faculty development and mentoring are of benefit not only to those who seek it out, but also to those who mentor and to the institution as a whole.  They help Hamilton support and retain an excellent faculty, enhance the quality of life in departments and across the college, build an intellectual community, and develop personal relationships among faculty.

Hamilton provides a number of activities and resources to support and guide faculty members as they build productive and successful careers in higher education. Among these are the following:

Help us provide an accessible education, offer innovative resources and programs, and foster intellectual exploration.
