Dance scholar Hilda M. Jordan and choreographer Jair Andres Chara joined forces on Tuesday, September 30th In the annex to bring the world of salsa to Hamilton’s campus. Faculty, staff, and students gathered to learn from the instruction of these talented dancers, listening intently and moving in rhythmic unison.

On September 22, GSU welcomed Robyn Ochs, a nationally recognized LGBTQIA+ activist, writer, and educator, to campus for two programs focused on bisexuality, history, and sustainable activism. Students gathered to celebrate, learn, and reflect on the importance of bi+ voices in the LGBTQIA+ movement.

The Black and Latine Student Union (BLSU) hosted the third event of Latine Heritage Month held on Wednesday, September 24 with a bustling kitchen and the universal language of food. The evening highlighted the food, music, and traditions of the people of Honduras, Guatemala, and Belize. The DMC was filled with students who came together to learn, taste, and honor the rich legacy of this Afro-Indigenous community.

On Friday, October 4th, the Sadove Porch was transformed into a Y2K dreamscape as the Black and Latine Student Union (BLSU) hosted its annual Homecoming Celebration. Just like the titular 2002 hit song by Nelly, this year’s theme, It’s Getting HOT in Herre, did not disappoint.

On September 22nd, the Asian Student Union and Basketball Club co-hosted a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Rasikh’s honor—an intentional tribute that reflected his love for the sport and the way he used it to bring people together. The event drew an incredible turnout of students, faculty, and staff who came to play, cheer, and remember Rasikh’s impact on the community.

GSU is about building community and increasing visibility for queer and trans students. From game nights and movie marathons to thought-provoking discussions and speaker panels, GSU creates a safe space where identity is celebrated, explored, and uplifted.

Students flooded through the doors of the Annex on Monday, September 8th to the sight of a long table filled with boba tea and two long rows of chairs facing each other. Characterized by “speed dating-style” socializing, sweet treats, and good music, the event is created with the intention of sparking initial connections with students to build upon throughout the year!

On a beautiful September 9th evening, BLSU Welcome Back Bash began on the front lawn of the DMC. For the second meeting of Disorientation week, BLSU welcomed new first year students to campus and reconnected with the Hamilton community. Music rang through the air as students lined up for food, chatting with each other and meeting new freshmen.
