For continentals, celebration isn’t just about big events–it’s about finding community, sharing stories, and creating a space of mutual belonging. That’s exactly what La Vanguardia (LV), the latine culture club on campus, brings to students each semester. Dedicated to spreading Latine culture and building friendships, the group is open to anyone who wants to connect and celebrate together. Lucas Andia ‘28; LV’s vice president, explained that at LV, their mission is to “spread Latine culture around campus” without leaving any students behind. We’re “approachable people,” he said, adding that the heart of La Vanguardia is simply to “have a nice time and enjoy each other’s company.” With its good-natured warmth, the club has become a place where community and culture go hand in hand.
This semester, La Vanguardia is especially excited to host events that highlight both the joy and depth of Latine heritage. Carol Daquilema ‘28; LV’s secretary, emphasized the importance of Latine Heritage Month (LHM), noting plans for a speaker panel with professors in Hispanic Studies as well as community engagement opportunities. “We want to round out a month that isn’t just about culture but also history and stories,” she said. Students can look forward to signature events like the premiere of the club’s new Wear Your Flag celebration, an immersive experience where students dress in clothing and flags representing their cultural backgrounds. Students on campus can also look forward to the club’s popular pub nights, each evening featuring a different theme and music. For first years and upperclassmen alike, the message is clear: La Vanguardia is ready to welcome you. “We love sharing who we are,” Daquilema said with a smile, adding that the home base of LV, the Days-Massolo Multicultural Center (DMC) is “so homey and welcoming to everyone.” With music, conversation, and celebration, LV continues to be a vibrant hub of joy, culture, and connection at Hamilton.
