Event Description

The Levitt Center invites you to a lunchtime community conversation on Democracy in the United States: Under Threat/Failing?  Catering by Lafa. Please RSVP for food here.

Many government scholars are concerned that democracy is in decline globally. According to the Global State of Democracy report, 2025 marks the 9th year in which there has been a net decline in democracy globally (DWB). Do you think that the same trend can be applied to the US? Is democracy in the US currently stable, under threat, or has it already failed? If it’s failed or failing, who is responsible? Is it us, with the fall in citizens’ engagement? Is it the current or former administrations? Private business and big corporations? Do we have the right systems in place to prevent the total erosion of democratic principles in the US?

We don’t know the answers to all those questions… but we would love to talk about it! Join us for lunch to talk more about the pillars of U.S. democracy and whether or not you think democracy in the US is being or has been eroded.
