Common Ground Events
Event Description
The January 6th assault on the U.S. Capitol remains more disputed on its fifth anniversary than on the day it occurred. The world saw what happened and subsequent investigations made clear why it happened. Yet, with the re-election of President Donald Trump and amnesty granted to the assault’s participants, January 6th’s meaning today reflects the country’s political polarization.
Former Representatives Matt Cartright, ’83 (D-PA) and Tom Rice (R-SC) had a front row seat to that day’s mayhem and the president’s subsequent impeachment. They will share their eyewitness accounts and analysis in a conversation moderated by Dave Chanatry ‘80, a former journalist at NBC News and professor emeritus at Utica University.
This event will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.
The College is grateful to Mary Helen and Robert Morris ’76, P’16,’17; Eve Niquette and Charles Pohl P’20,’25; Lori and David Hess ’77; Ann and David Hinchcliff ’57, P’85, GP’16,’19; and Kate Pooley ’85 and Monty Pooley ’84, P’16,’19 for their generous support of Common Ground.
