National and regional news organizations regularly interview Hamilton faculty, staff, alumni, and students for their expertise and perspectives on current events, and to feature programs and activities on campus. November’s news topics included varied subjects from the Federal Reserve to election polling to awkward holiday situations.

At Hamilton, active citizenship is demonstrated in many ways. We talked to several students and young alumni who explain how they discovered an interest at Hamilton that led them to take action to create social change, and have a positive impact on society.

Honor Flight Syracuse is an organization that flies approximately 80 veterans several times a year to Washington, D.C., to visit the monuments dedicated to their service. The veterans’ return to Syracuse is celebrated with a ceremony in their honor. On April 27, the program was hosted by Visiting Professor of History and Brigadier. General (retired) Ty Seidule.

Hamilton College has joined College Presidents for Civic Preparedness, a unique consortium designed by the presidents and convened by the Institute for Citizens & Scholars. The group of 61 member institutions from across the country seeks to advance higher education’s pivotal role in preparing students to be engaged citizens and to uphold free expression on campus.

The final Common Ground of the year examined a variety of hot topics that are top of mind for voters in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, including immigration, the economy, and abortion.
